Assistant Superintendent

This is a responsible, supervisory, as well as technical position in directing and participating in maintenance activities.  This position will assist the superintendent in field supervision, recordkeeping, repair and maintenance of all golf course equipment.  Employee will report directly to golf course superintendent.

• Assumes the duties of the superintendent in his absence and/or supervises work force and tasks on weekends and holidays as directed.
• Maintain the course in proper playing condition
• Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways.
• Instructs and supervises employees on proper golf course maintenance procedures, equipment operations and safety.
• Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.
• Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
• Analyzes and resolves work problems and/or assists workers in solving work related problems.
• Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs, and trees; characteristics a n proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditiners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods;; and irrigation systems, including pumps, and automatic controls.
